Itinerary
After breakfast, departure with picnic lunch for Tarangire National Park which lies a few kilometers off the main Arusha-Dodoma Road to the east of Lake Manyara. Game drive on arrival in this excellent park famous for its large herds of elephant, a classic piece off dry African woodland dotted with baobab trees and transected by the perennial Tarangire river which attracts many animals from surrounding areas during the long dry season. Picnic lunch in the park and continue with game drive. Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge/Maramboi Lodge.
After breakfast, proceed to the Serengeti which in a local vernacular means the endless plains that go up to the sky and they do just that. Covering 14,765 sq km, one of the striking features of this park is the series of large granite outcrops that dominate the vast plains, home of the millions in numbers wildebeest migration, a movement never stops, as the animals constantly seek out new grazing pastures. Indeed, every year, along with the wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elands, topis, and hartebeests gather in their thousands on the Serengeti’s plains and the Ngorongoro Highlands. Then, around April, they head towards the western corridor of the Serengeti, where many overflow in to the Maasai Mara around August and come back again in late October. This yearly phenomenon also affects the lives of hundreds of thousands of other species, who rely on the migratory herds for their survival. These include all types of predators. Game drive on arrival and have picnic lunch. Continue with game drive and in the evening proceed to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Serengeti Kati Kati/Ang’ata Camp Serengeti.
After breakfast you depart for Ngorongoro, viewing game across the vast Serengeti plains as you go. You stop at Olduvai Gorge en route. The Gorge acquired its name from the sansevieria bush that grows profusely in the area, named Oldupai by the Maasai. The Gorge Is about 50 km long and in some places around 90m deep and is found between the Ngorongoro crater and the Serengeti. It was first discovered by a German entomologist named professor Kattwinkel, who instigated an expedition just before the First World War Later, the exploration was continued by Dr Louis Leakey and his wife, who in 1959 found humanoid remains of Zinjanthropus, later renamed Australopithecus Boisel, an early form of man. You will have time to walk through the simple small museum at hr Gorge, where you can view copy displays of some of the finds as well as images of what life was like for the gorge’s earliest inhabitants. Dinner an overnight at Ngorongoro Farm House/Tloma Lodge
After breakfast, proceed to the crater with picnic lunch and descend the steep, winding road to the crater floor for a full day game drive in this magical Caldera with its year-round, high concentration of animals living within the surrounding 600 m crater walls which is home to the black rhino as well as the rest of the ‘Big 5’. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Farm House/Tloma Lodge.
After breakfast, proceed to Lake Manyara National Park with picnic lunch. In this park, fauna is particularly varied because the diversity of its biotopes. Baboons, vervet monkeys, buffalos, giraffes, elephants, zebras and over species of birds which includes pink flamingoes and storks. Picnic lunch in the park and in the afternoon, return to Arusha, Transfer to the airport for your overseas flight, depending on the flight’s schedule.
